CVE-2024-45607Network attack vector

Unauthenticated payload injection via inverted signature comparison

Published Sep 12, 2024 · Updated Sep 12, 2024

Improper signature verification in Secreto31126 whatsapp-api-js 4.0.0 through 4.0.2 allows remote attackers to submit forged webhook payloads. WhatsAppAPI.verifyRequestSignature returns true when a supplied signature differs from the computed HMAC because its final comparison uses inequality. Applications that expose webhook handlers and trust this result process every payload except one bearing WhatsApp's valid signature, permitting unauthenticated message injection.
