CVE-2024-45341Network attack vector

Certificate validation bypass via IPv6 zone identifiers

Published Jan 28, 2025 · Updated Feb 21, 2025

Certificate-validation bypass in Go crypto/x509 allows attackers to evade URI name constraints with crafted certificates in private PKIs. matchURIConstraint treats an IPv6 URI host containing a zone identifier as a DNS hostname because net.ParseIP does not recognize zone identifiers, then applies domain matching instead of rejecting the IP-based URI. Exploitation requires certificate chains with URI names and URI constraints; successful bypass admits a certificate that should fail chain validation.
