Scan evasion via malicious extended file attributes
Published Oct 22, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Virus-scan bypass in Trend Micro Antivirus One 3.10.4 and earlier allows attackers to evade detection with a crafted malicious file. The scanner accepts special extended file attributes set by the file itself and consequently skips inspection of its malicious content. Exploitation requires placement of the crafted file on a macOS endpoint, and the bounded consequence is failure to detect that file.
