CVE-2024-45312Network attack vector

Authenticated server file disclosure via aspell dictionary filename

Published Sep 2, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024

Path traversal in Overleaf 4.0.0 through 4.2.6 and 5.0.0 through 5.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to read server files. The spelling-check handler forwards an unrestricted language value to aspell, which treats it as an arbitrary dictionary filename. A logged-in user can trigger server-scoped file access through POST /spelling/check, with no reported write or service-interruption impact.
