CVE-2024-45308Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Note impersonation via case-insensitive alias lookup

Published Sep 2, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024

Improper identifier validation in HedgeDoc before 1.10.0 allows remote attackers to hide or impersonate notes through crafted aliases. Note lookups in lib/models/note.js compare alias and shortid values case-insensitively under MySQL or MariaDB, allowing a lowercase alias to resolve before an existing mixed-case note ID. Exploitation requires freeURL mode and knowledge of the target note ID; access is anonymous or authenticated according to instance permissions, and the original note remains stored.
