CVE-2024-45306Public exploit

Editor crash via invalid cursor position

Published Sep 2, 2024 · Updated Oct 4, 2024

Heap-buffer overflow in Vim 9.1.0038 through 9.1.0706 allows local users to crash the editor via crafted input. The getvcol function permits a cursor column beyond the current line, after which ins_char_bytes performs a one-byte heap write past its allocation. Triggering the flaw requires user interaction with crafted input; the upstream project observed only an editor crash and could not identify a reliable trigger.
