CVE-2024-45054

Cluster privilege escalation via wildcard ClusterRole permissions

Published Aug 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Incorrect privilege assignment in HwameiStor before 0.14.6 allows local users to gain cluster-level privileges from a worker node. The Helm chart defines the hwameistor-role ClusterRole with wildcard API groups, resources, verbs, and non-resource URLs instead of limiting permissions to required operations. Exploitation requires high-privilege worker-node access and user interaction; the published assessment limits the consequence to disclosure of some cluster data.
