CVE-2024-45038Network attack vector

Device crash via malformed MQTT packet

Published Aug 27, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Improper exception handling in Meshtastic Firmware before 2.4.1 allows remote attackers to crash nodes via malformed MQTT packets. The advisory identifies MQTT packet handling but does not disclose the parser locus or exception that a malformed packet triggers. Exploitation requires MQTT downlink to be enabled; a crafted broker message interrupts service by crashing the receiving device.
