CVE-2024-45018

Kernel crash via uninitialized flow-offload extack

Published Sep 11, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Missing initialization in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the system through netfilter flow offload operations. The nf_flow_offload_tuple and nf_flow_table_offload_setup paths pass stack-allocated netlink_ext_ack structures without first zero-initializing them. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and a configured flowtable path; hardware offload additionally requires a capable network device.
