Local system crash via stale DPU connector state
Published Sep 11, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the MSM DPU encoder in Linux allows local users to crash affected systems through a connector state change. During connector-only atomic transitions, atomic_disable clears the encoder's connector, but no atomic_mode_set restores it before atomic_enable passes NULL to dpu_encoder_get_drm_fmt. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and a system using the affected MSM display pipeline; the resulting kernel crash interrupts service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
