CVE-2024-44982

Local denial of service via framebuffer cleanup omission

Published Sep 4, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Incomplete cleanup in affected Linux kernel DRM/MSM DPU builds allows local users to disrupt system availability during DRM file closure. In dpu_plane_prepare_fb(), a dpu_format_populate_layout() failure returns after framebuffer preparation without calling msm_framebuffer_cleanup(), leaving the GEM object's pin_count elevated. An unprivileged local user must reach the MSM DPU framebuffer path and trigger layout failure; closing the DRM file then produces a kernel warning and availability loss.
