Application crash via invalid EXR decoder write
Published Aug 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024
Denial of service in the EXR plugin for IrfanView 4.67.1.0 allows attackers to crash the application by opening a crafted EXR file. EXR.dll's ReadEXR routine performs a two-byte write through an invalid destination pointer while decoding the file, triggering a Windows access violation. Exploitation requires a user to open the file, and the demonstrated consequence is termination of the current IrfanView process rather than system-wide interruption.
