Application crash via invalid EXR pointer write
Published Aug 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024
Denial of service in IrfanView 4.67.1.0 allows attackers to crash the application by inducing a user to open a crafted EXR file. The EXR.dll ReadEXR routine writes a 16-bit value through an invalid pointer at offset 0x40ef1 while decoding the file, triggering an access violation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction and interrupts only the affected IrfanView process; no confidentiality or integrity impact is reported.
