CVE-2024-4453

Code execution via EXIF parser integer overflow

Published May 22, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Integer overflow in GStreamer gst-plugins-base before 1.24.3 or before 1.22.12 allows attackers to execute code via malformed EXIF metadata. The EXIF image tag parser fails to validate user-controlled size data, allowing an integer overflow before buffer allocation and a resulting heap overwrite. Exploitation requires an application to process the crafted stream; heap manipulation executes code in the current process, while an unsuccessful attempt can crash it.
