App crash via out-of-bounds file parsing
Published Oct 28, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in sips in macOS Ventura before 13.7.1, Sonoma before 14.7.1, and Sequoia before 15.1 allows attackers to crash it. The sips file parser reads beyond an input buffer because it does not correctly validate the bounds of a crafted file. Exploitation requires that file to be parsed, and the reported consequence is limited to termination of the sips process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
