CVE-2024-44256

Local sandbox escape via unsanitized Messages input

Published Oct 28, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026

Sandbox escape in Apple macOS Messages allows local users to escape an app sandbox through crafted input on an affected Mac. Messages insufficiently sanitizes attacker-controlled input, but Apple has not disclosed the specific parser, data format, or operation that mishandles it. Exploitation requires execution of an app inside the macOS sandbox; escape removes that containment boundary, while the available advisories do not identify the post-escape action.
