CVE-2024-44252Public exploit

Protected-system-file modification via crafted backup restoration

Published Oct 28, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026

A MobileBackup logic flaw in affected iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, and visionOS releases allows attackers to modify protected system files. MobileBackup accepts crafted backup contents and restores them into protected locations rather than confining them to ordinary backup destinations. Exploitation requires user interaction to restore the backup; a public iOS and iPadOS tool demonstrates replacement of a chosen system application's main binary.
