Iframe sandbox bypass via custom URL schemes
Published Oct 28, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Input validation failure in Apple Safari before 18 allows remote attackers to violate iframe sandboxing through malicious web content. Safari's custom URL scheme handler insufficiently validates a crafted URL before permitting framed content to navigate it. A user must load the crafted content, after which it can escape the restrictions imposed by the iframe sandbox policy.
