Sandbox escape via improper symlink resolution
Published Sep 16, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Sandbox escape in ArchiveService in Apple macOS before 15 allows local users to escape an app sandbox through crafted symlinks. ArchiveService fails to keep symlink resolution within the sandbox boundary, allowing a link to resolve outside its container. Execution of an app under a local user account is required, and successful exploitation removes the app's sandbox restrictions.
