CVE-2024-44070Network attack vector

BGP daemon crash via truncated tunnel TLV

Published Aug 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Input validation error in FRRouting through 10.1 allows remote attackers to crash the BGP daemon via a truncated tunnel encapsulation TLV. The bgp_attr_encap function trusts a sub-TLV length without comparing it with the bytes remaining in the BGP input stream, so stream_get reaches an assertion when copying beyond readable data. The sender must reach an active BGP session and deliver a malformed UPDATE; the demonstrated consequence is an assertion failure and service interruption.
