CVE-2024-4393Network attack vector

Account takeover via unverified OpenID server

Published May 8, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026

Authentication bypass in Brent Shepherd Social Connect 1.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to impersonate an existing WordPress user. The OpenID login handler trusts an attacker-supplied identity provider without adequately verifying that server before accepting its asserted email address. Knowledge of a registered email address is sufficient to obtain that account's privileges, including administrator control when it belongs to an administrator.
