CVE-2024-43882Public exploit

Root privilege escalation via stale exec metadata

Published Aug 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

A TOCTOU race in Linux kernel exec handling allows local users to gain root privileges during set-user-ID permission changes. do_filp_open checks execute permission before brpm_fill_uid later rereads mutable inode mode, owner, and group data to apply set-user-ID credentials. Exploitation requires execution to race a privileged process that changes a program from generally executable to restricted and set-user-ID.
