CVE-2024-43871

Local service interruption via leaked per-CPU allocations

Published Aug 21, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Resource leakage in the Linux kernel from 4.10 allows local users to interrupt service by repeatedly exercising per-CPU allocation cleanup. In drivers/base/devres.c, devm_free_percpu() removes the devres record with devres_destroy() without invoking the release callback, leaving the per-CPU allocation resident. Low-privileged local access and a driver path pairing devm_alloc_percpu() with devm_free_percpu() are required; repeated calls can exhaust memory and interrupt service.
