CVE-2024-43856

Service interruption via DMA resource race

Published Aug 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Race condition in Linux kernel DMA resource management allows local users to interrupt service by causing the wrong devres entry to be freed. The dmam_free_coherent function releases a DMA address before removing its devres record, allowing a concurrent allocation to reuse that address and devres_destroy to remove the new record. Triggering requires local low-privileged execution and precise concurrent allocation timing; the mismatch reaches a kernel warning and affects availability.
