Stored script execution via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in the Simple Membership shortcode handler through 4.4.5 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts into pages. The swpm_paypal_subscription_cancel_link handler accepts user-supplied shortcode attributes and returns them in page markup without adequate sanitization or output escaping. Contributor-level access is required to store a payload, which executes in a visitor's browser when the crafted page is viewed.
