Local kernel crash via unchecked phantom plane
Published Aug 17, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux 6.8 through 6.10.2 allows local users to crash the kernel through AMD display processing. The enable_phantom_plane function fails to validate create_phantom_plane's return value before memcpy dereferences the returned pointer. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and the AMD display SubVP phantom-plane path; successful triggering crashes the kernel without reported data exposure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
