CVE-2024-43806Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via unbounded directory buffer growth

Published Aug 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 26, 2024

Denial of service in Rustix allows remote authenticated users to crash applications through error-triggering Linux directory iteration. The rustix::fs::Dir iterator fails to stop after an I/O error, while Dir::read_more grows its buffer on every retry until memory is exhausted. Exploitation requires the linux_raw backend, a stuck directory state, and calling code that continues after iterator errors; the host can invoke its OOM killer.
