CVE-2024-43805Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Stored XSS via MathJax DOM clobbering

Published Aug 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Cross-site scripting in Project Jupyter JupyterLab before 3.6.8 and 4.0.0 through 4.2.4 allows attackers to act with a user's session. The HTML sanitizer retains attacker-controlled id and name attributes in rendered Markdown, allowing them to clobber the global MathJax object and redirect script loading. Exploitation requires the attacked user to open a malicious notebook Markdown cell or Markdown preview, after which stored script execution can access that user's data and issue arbitrary requests in that user's context.
