CVE-2024-43801Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Administrator escalation via stored SVG token theft

Published Sep 2, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024

Stored XSS in Jellyfin 10.8.0 through 10.9.9 allows remote authenticated users to gain administrator access via a crafted SVG profile image. The user profile image upload accepts script-bearing SVG content, and direct browser rendering lets that script read an administrator's LocalStorage access token and invoke the user-policy API. Exploitation requires an administrator to open the image outside the Web UI; the stolen token grants the attacker's account administrator privileges.
