CVE-2024-43794Network attack vector

Post-login external redirect via nextUrl validation bypass

Published Aug 23, 2024 · Updated Aug 23, 2024

Open redirect in OpenSearch Dashboards Security Plugin before 1.3.19 and 2.0.0 through 2.15.0 allows remote attackers to redirect users via nextUrl. The server-side validateNextUrl function treated specially formed paths as relative without constraining them to the configured server base path, and authentication routes subsequently used the accepted value as the post-login destination. A victim must follow a crafted link and complete login before the browser is sent to an attacker-chosen external site, enabling trusted-origin phishing without altering the dashboard service.
