CVE-2024-43581Network attack vector

Remote code execution via unvalidated SFTP filenames

Published Oct 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Remote code execution in Microsoft OpenSSH for Windows allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted SFTP directory listing. The SFTP client accepts server-supplied filenames containing directory separators and uses them during recursive downloads without rejecting traversal paths. Exploitation requires a user-initiated recursive SFTP transfer from an attacker-controlled server, after which crafted paths can write outside the chosen destination and enable code execution.
