Code execution via crafted console file
Published Oct 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Improper neutralization in Microsoft Management Console on affected Windows builds allows attackers to execute code through a crafted MSC file. A console StringTable entry can reference the vulnerable APDS resource, causing mmc.exe to execute embedded JavaScript instead of treating the content as inert data. A user must open the malicious file, and resulting code runs in that logged-on user's security context.
