CVE-2024-43551

Local privilege escalation via link following

Published Oct 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Improper link resolution in Microsoft Windows Storage allows local users with low privileges to elevate privileges through crafted links. Microsoft identifies link following before file access but has not disclosed the affected routine or the specific link type accepted by Windows Storage. A low-privileged local user can trigger the flaw without another user's interaction and gain elevated access to protected system resources.
