Code execution via freed evaluation-state object
Published Oct 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Use-after-free in Microsoft Excel allows attackers to execute code when a target opens a crafted workbook through a Moniker Link. The OldEval::RestoreEvalState routine calls OldEval::FreePv and then dereferences the freed evaluation-state object while restoring workbook state. Exploitation requires user interaction to open the file, and resulting code runs in the affected user's security context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
