CVE-2024-43470

Privilege escalation via improper link resolution

Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Improper link resolution in Microsoft Azure Network Watcher VM Extension before 1.4.3422.1 allows local users to elevate privileges. The extension follows a filesystem link before privileged file access, but Microsoft has not disclosed the affected path, operation, or controllable link. Exploitation requires low local privileges and user interaction, and successful exploitation grants elevated access with the ability to read, alter, or disrupt protected resources.
