Unauthorized Matrix privileges via inactive-enrollment inclusion
Published Nov 11, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024
Incorrect authorization in Moodle LMS 4.3 through 4.3.5 and 4.4 through 4.4.1 allows remote attackers to retain Matrix room privileges. get_enrolled_users_for_course queried course users without limiting results to active enrollments, while power-level removal addressed entries by Moodle user ID rather than Matrix ID. The issue requires Matrix communication and a suspended course enrollment; affected users can retain room membership or non-administrator power levels.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <4.1.12
- Affected versionversion=4.2 <4.2.9
