Gateway crash via unbounded query-plan enumeration
Published Aug 27, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2024
Denial of service in Apollo Federation components allows remote attackers to crash affected gateways with sufficiently complex queries. The query planner multiplies candidate counts until the value becomes Infinity, then fails to prune alternatives and enumerates plans without bound. Exploitation requires a non-key field resolvable by multiple subgraphs and can exhaust memory until the gateway crashes or is terminated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
