Firewall reconfiguration via unsanitized IP environment variables
Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2025
Code injection in Phoenix Contact mGuard firmware before 8.9.3 or 10.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to alter firewall behavior. Four FW_INCOMING and FW_OUTGOING IP environment variables accept insufficiently validated input used to generate packet-filtering, forwarding, access-control, and NAT configuration. Low-privileged administrative access is required; crafted values can change firewall rules and interrupt network service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
