Arbitrary file overwrite via Windows path traversal
Published Aug 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 15, 2024
Path traversal in Webcrack's bundle saver in j4k0xb Webcrack 2.14.0 and earlier allows attackers to overwrite JavaScript files on Windows. The save path uses POSIX dirname, join, and normalize operations, so backslashes in an untrusted module name bypass the path-prefix check. Exploitation requires a crafted bundle to be unpacked and saved; overwriting a Node.js module enables attacker-controlled code to run when that module loads.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
