Local privilege escalation via hidden accessibility service
Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Nov 22, 2024
Authorization logic error in Google Android 12 through 15 allows local users to escalate privileges by hiding an enabled accessibility service. AccessibilitySettings.getInstalledAccessibilityPreferences removed a service when its package name and label matched an installed accessibility activity, omitting that service from the preference list. Exploitation requires user interaction and a locally installed malicious service; the hidden enabled service can retain elevated accessibility access.
