Local privilege escalation via incomplete PMMETA_PROTECT validation
Published Jan 2, 2025 · Updated Jan 3, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android's PowerVR-GPU component allows local users to escalate privileges through improper GPU system calls. DevmemValidateFlags in devicemem_server.c incompletely checks PMMETA_PROTECT, allowing the driver to write arbitrary kernel physical pages. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access, needs no user interaction, and grants elevated privileges on affected Android SoCs.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
