CVE-2024-42986Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Router crash via unchecked PPPoE password decoding

Published Aug 15, 2024 · Updated Oct 24, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in Tenda FH1206 02.03.01.35 allows remote attackers to crash the router via a crafted POST request. The fromAdvSetWan function passes PPPOEPassword to decodePwd, whose byte-copy loop writes into the fixed v52 buffer without checking its length. The web management endpoint must be network-reachable; no authentication or user interaction is required, and the reported consequence is a crash.
