CVE-2024-42698Network attack vector

Item duplication via unchecked inventory slot modification

Published Aug 28, 2024 · Updated Mar 18, 2025

Improper slot validation in Roughly Enough Items 16.0.729 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to duplicate in-game items. The recipe-transfer path accepts a crafted packet, chooses an unmodifiable inventory slot without validating its index or access rules, and copies an item without correctly decrementing the source stack. A malicious Minecraft client must connect to a server running the mod; the demonstrated consequence is unauthorized inventory duplication.
