Broker crash via unchecked PUBLISH topic
Published Jul 15, 2025 · Updated Jul 15, 2025
Denial of service in NanoMQ 0.17.5 allows remote attackers to crash the MQTT broker with a crafted PUBLISH message. The handle_pub path accepts a zero-length or null topic and passes it into topic-alias storage and downstream topic handling without validation; the patch adds length and null checks. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation terminates the broker process rather than exposing or modifying message data.
