Root login via hardcoded shadow-file password

Published Aug 16, 2024 · Updated Mar 20, 2025

Hardcoded credentials in New H3C Technologies H3C GR1100-P v100R009 allow remote attackers to log in as root. The firmware stores a fixed password for the root account in /etc/shadow, causing its login service to accept the same embedded credential on affected devices. Network reachability to a device login interface and knowledge of the disclosed credential are sufficient for full administrative access.
