CVE-2024-42487Network attack vector

Information disclosure via incorrect route precedence

Published Aug 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 15, 2024

Route precedence errors in Cilium 1.15.0 through 1.15.7 and 1.16.0 allow remote attackers to reach an unintended backend. The SortableRoute.Less ordering compares header-match counts without first prioritizing Envoy's :method matcher, so a header-specific route can sort ahead of a method-specific route. Exposure requires Gateway API routes that match both headers and methods and an unintended backend without a restricting Network Policy; the bounded impact is unauthorized information access.
