CVE-2024-42415Public exploit

Code execution via wrapped sector-table allocation

Published Oct 3, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Integer overflow in GNOME libgsf 1.14.52 allows attackers to execute code when an application parses a crafted compound document. In ole_init_info, untrusted sector size and sector count values are multiplied into a 32-bit guint32, wrapping the BAT entry count and allocating an undersized heap buffer. Any application or indexing service that passes the file to gsf_infile_msole_new can trigger out-of-bounds writes in ole_info_read_metabat, causing a crash or code execution in that consumer's context.
