Account age falsification via unrestricted creation timestamp
Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2024
Improper input validation in affected Mattermost server releases allows remote attackers to falsify account creation dates through the user API. POST /api/v4/users accepts a caller-supplied creation timestamp without restricting it to a server-generated value, so the stored account record can claim an earlier creation time. No authentication or user interaction is required, and the resulting integrity impact is limited to misleading administrators about account age.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=9.10.0
- Affected versionversion=9.5.0 <=9.5.7
- Affected versionversion=9.8.0 <=9.8.2
