Code execution via untrusted ELF interpreter
Published Jul 31, 2024 · Updated Jul 31, 2024
Code execution in Homebrew before 4.2.20 allows remote attackers to run code through a downloaded ELF file with a crafted interpreter. Library/Homebrew/os/linux/elf.rb invokes ldd on the untrusted ELF during dependency discovery, causing its custom .interp loader to run. A user must initiate an affected package operation on Linux, but execution occurs during unsandboxed relocation before downloaded package content is expected to run.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
