CVE-2024-42368Network attack vector

Unauthenticated telemetry injection via bearer-token timing oracle

Published Aug 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 14, 2024

Observable timing discrepancy in OpenTelemetry Collector Contrib 0.80.0 and later before 0.107.0 allows remote attackers to guess bearer tokens. The bearertokenauth server authenticator compares a received authorization value with the configured token using ordinary string inequality, exposing token-match progress through response timing. Network access to a receiver configured with this authenticator is required; a recovered token permits fabricated telemetry to enter the pipeline.
